Food for Fines is a Wrap!

The results of the second Santa Clara County Library District's Food for Fines amnesty program are in.  In 2019, Food for Fines brought in another huge haul of non-perishable food items collected for Second Harvest Food Bank of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.  From Apr 2-May 5, 32,280 pounds of canned and boxed food items were donated by local residents at SCCLD's eight libraries and Bookmobile.  Thanks to the generosity of our communities, some of this much needed food was also donated by residents without any library fines or fees.

6,402 patrons had their fines and fees waived through Food for Fines in 2019, with more than 5,100 returning to a zero balance and an additional 731 regaining their borrowing status.  In all,  $130,160 was waived by SCCLD.  Taken together with last year's inaugural offering of the program, more than 31 tons of food has been collected for families and individuals in need generating 52,600 meals, and 14,388 patrons had fines and fees waived.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our patrons and communities for your generosity and we hope you will enjoy all of the benefits of your library privileges!
