Be-YOU-tiful Be Free Writing Contest

Students in grades 6 to 12 are invited to enter the 10th annual Eating Disorders Resource Center writing contest on a wide range of issues affecting Bay Area youth. Through a poem or essay, teens and pre-teens can share their views on mental illnesses, such as depression and anxiety, as well as eating disorders and body image. The winning entry can receive an award up to $300.

To enter, write a poem or essay on these topics:

  • eating disorders & body image
  • depression
  • stress & anxiety

Submissions should:

  • contain 500 words or less
  • be double-spaced, 12 pt font
  • must include your name, grade, school, email address, and phone number.
  • should be one page max, single spaced in Times New Roman 12 pt font.

Prizes are $300 for First Place, $200 for Second Place, and $100 for Third Place. Winners will be announced at the beginning of April. Middle and High School entries will be judged separately, with the top three poems and essays from each category. In addition to the prizes, winning selections will be featured on the Eating Disorders Resource Center website and announced in a press release distributed to prominent newspaper companies in the Bay Area.
