What's up at the Reading Program?

The Reading Program had quite the busy year, so we want to share some exciting outcomes with participants, patrons and supporters. In the past fiscal year, The Reading Program served 172 students who met with their tutors for 1-on-1 instruction at their local libraries. One hundred and eighteen amazing volunteers provided 5182 instructional hours! They read with their students, studied new vocabulary, improved comprehension, and built writing skills too. Collectively, students set 500 goals and met 207 goals directly related to their learning.

Volunteers also donated another 1418 hours of their precious time to write outcomes-oriented lesson plans and prepare for each meeting. Twelve FFL families and 15 eager ESL students attended classes and special programs at the apartments. In addition, staff trained 84 new fantastic volunteers, and the library provided 443 helpful workbooks to students for free. As one can imagine, this adds up to lots and lots of reading!

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers, students, supporters and friends. We could not have done this without you! If you would like to join the Reading Program, find more information here.

Happy reading,
Brenda
