Voices from Literacy Land - The Reading Program

“I have never met anyone like her. She guides me step-by-step until I completely understand what I need to learn. She gives me the strength to get going and keeps me on the right path. She is what I need in my life right now,” said Ana when speaking about her Reading Program tutor.

A free program offered at SCCLD libraries, the Reading Program was created to help adults such as Ana learn basic reading, writing, math and computer skills. By mastering these essential life skills, Reading Program students not only better their lives but become better equipped to reach their educational, career, and personal life goals.

“Seeing my student’s struggle first-hand, I have learned to take things one step at a time and celebrate the little victories,” stated Pam, a Reading Tutor with SCCLD’s Reading Program.  “She is a delight to be with, and I only hope I am helping her as much as she wants and needs.”
