The 2018 James Beard Award Winners

The James Beard Awards are the most famous and prestigious of the many chef and cooking awards. 

The 2018 James Beard Restaurant and Media Awards celebrate nationwide excellence in cuisine, culinary writing, and culinary education.

The Outstanding Chef Award went to Gabrielle Hamilton, who is also an outstanding cookbook author and documentary subject.

Bay Area restaurants did particularly well with four different Bay Area locations earning recognition at the awards:

Best Chef: West (CA, HI, NV): Dominique Crenn (pictured above) for the restaurant, Atelier Crenn, San Francisco.

Outstanding Baker: Belinda Leong and Michel Suas for B. Patisserie, San Francisco.

Outstanding Service: Zuni Café, San Francisco.

Outstanding Restaurant Design (75 seats and over): In Situ, San Francisco.
