Great British Baking Fun

In the winter months, I get the urge to bake...and to watch shows about baking. My favorite show about baking has to be The Great British Baking Show (or by its original title: The Great British Bake-Off). I'm not alone; the show has become a worldwide phenomenon

The Great British Baking Show stands out because of its stunning locations and the knowledge, warmth and humor provided by the competitors; by the judges, Paul Hollywood (top image, on left) and Mary Berry (center, left); and by the hosts Sue Perkins (center, right) and Mel Giedroyc (on right).

There is an entertaining, educational aspect to the show as techniques are well-explained and the reasons for success and failure are always discussed with wit, warmth, and good pacing. Here is an example of the technical challenge, which is part of every episode, which manages to be both instructive and suspenseful.

Check out all four seasons of The Great British Baking Show that have been released in the US at your library.

If you're interested in exploring more of this addictive show, the library has recipes used on the show as well as books by the judges and competitors.
