Reading Takes You Everywhere this Summer!

Tote bag for Summer ReadingWith summer right around the corner, you may find yourself remembering the good old days when summer meant lying in a hammock, sipping lemonade, and devouring your favorite books. Those days don't have to be over--at least not the devouring books part.

Starting June 1 and going through July 31, you can visit Los Altos Library to sign up yourself (and your children, if you have them) for Reading Takes You Everywhere, this year's Summer Reading program offered at the Santa Clara County Library District. Adults get a free canvas tote bag (shown in the picture) as a sign-up prize. Can't make it into the library right on June 1? No problem--just sign up online at and you can collect your tote bag when you next visit the library. Read and log 5 books, and you will be eligible for a County-wide drawing to win a 49ers Game Day Experience and autographed 49ers memorabilia. Los Altos adults who read 5 books will also be eligible for a drawing for a grand prize of Bose headphones.

The best part, though, is that visitors to Los Altos Library's Adult Reference Desk can partake in the Weekly Challenges and get a small prize each week just for participating. Play Book Bingo, guess the Book in a Jar, make bookmarks, and many more!

Be sure to check out our Events pages to keep up with fun programs we will be offering throughout the summer. Most of all, let us help you find books and other materials that will help you remember that it is, indeed, summer--a time where the reading is easy and fun!
