Learn Basic Coding Skills with Dot and Dash!

A crucial part of our library’s mission and role is to support our schools by providing free access to project-based, hands-on STEM (Science. Technology. Engineering. Math) programs for school-age children at the library that make learning fun!  A basic understanding of STEM is a requirement for all students both in school and in life whether they choose it as a career or simply choose to be a STEM-literate citizen able to make informed choices. 

Coding is a fundamental STEM skill all kids need to learn.  Coding skills allow children to be thinkers, innovators and scientists who understand the logic that controls the technology they are using.  With coding skills under their belt, they will have the tools necessary to transform their creative ideas into reality.  For example, using a simple visual programming interface (Blockly), participants will “write” the code required to guide a robot through a maze at our "Robotics Fun with Dot and Dash" programs listed below.

Campbell Library: "Robots @ Campbell"

 Meets Saturday, October 7th from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.  For grades 3-6 only. Registration is required.

Cupertino Library: “Robots Rock!” 

 Meets Monday, October 23rd from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm for grades 2-5. Registration is required.

Gilroy Library: “Beginning Robotics for Ages 7+”

Meets Fridays in October: October 6, 13, 20, and 27th at 4:00pm. Registration is required. Students may sign up for one lesson only as the same lesson is repeated each week.

Los Altos Library:  “Robotic Fun with Dot and Dash”

Meets Friday, October 13th from 3:30 pm - 5 pm for grades 2-5. Registration is required due to limited space.

Milpitas Library: “Robotics for Grades 3-5 Session I”

Meets Friday October 13th and Friday, October 27th at 3:30 pm - 5 pm for grades 3-5.  Registration is required.

Morgan Hill Library: "Coding with Dot and Dash"

Meets Wednesday, October 18th at 4 pm - 5 pm. No experience necessary. For ages 7-11. Sign up online or at the Information Desk. 

Saratoga Library: “Robotics Fun with Dot and Dash”

Meets Thursday, October 19th @ 4:00 pm -5:00 pm.  Registration is required at the Children’s Information Desk.  Space is limited. Grades 1-5 only.

Read Secret Coders by Gene Luen Yang and do a fun activity based on the theme, “coding and robotics.” Meets Wednesday, October 11th @ 4:00 pm-5:00 pm.  Registration is required.  For Grades 4-6 only.    

Los Altos Library:

Robert's Coding Class: Introduction to JavaScript,”

Meets Saturday, October 14th at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
For grades 4-6 only. Registration is required.

Morgan Hill Library

Python Programming, Chat-Bots and AI for Kids

Meets Friday, October 13th at 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm.
For 3rd-8th graders.  Registration is required.
