Immunization Awareness

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. It is also the time of year when most schools are starting.  Do your kids have their required immunization shots yet?  Sometimes, parents might get too busy to keep track of what shots children need or when to get them.  No worries!  The CDC (Center of Disease Control) has all sorts of tools to help you.

This simple quiz is designed to help find out what vaccines you need. A comprehensive recommended immunization schedule is available for children, preteens and teens, and adults.
Children from birth to 6 years old must receive vaccine shots frequently.  To help parents organize their schedules, a handy tracker is available to record this information.
If you are pregnant, you can check these guidelines to know what vaccines are needed. For frequent business travelers, immunization requirements vary depending on the destination to which you travel.    For more information, you can check the CDC website (Center of Disease Control) and Vaccines.gov for details.

Our library subscribes to a variety of health resources.  Staywell Knowledgebase is a new health database we have recently acquired where you can find updated information on immunizations or any other health topics.
Some recommended titles on vaccination are The Vaccine Book:making the right decision for your childVaccines & your Child  and Vaccines.
