These lists were compiled by the folks at using the best of the year lists from the likes of Amazon, NPR, Publisher's Weekly, New York Times Book Review, and others, as well as award winners and nominees, so it is truly the best of the best. They rank the books based on the number of "best of" mentions and awards won.

This year's top honors go to Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad for fiction, and Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond for nonfiction.
