Here Comes the Sun!!

Summer is a-comin' take advantage of all that sun. Put it to work for you. You can convert your home to use solar power for its electricity needs. You may even be able to sell your excess power back to the power company. Remember to check with your power company for financial incentives to converting your home to solar power. The residential renewable energy tax credit provides a 30 percent tax credit. The extension for this tax credit is in effect until December 31, 2016. There may also be local tax credits available to you. Check with your local municipality. Follow the link to this site for more information from the federal government on this program.

Here are some important questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you want to go entirely solar or do you want to be able to tap into your local electric company if necessary?

  • Does your roof get at least four hours of direct sun each day? Make sure it’s not blocked by nearby buildings or trees.

  • Do you want to build it yourself or hire a solar installation company to do it for you?

  • Do you want to buy or lease your solar system? What options are available to you if you choose to finance the project?

  • Have you got all the necessary permits before beginning installation? Check with your local municipality to see what permits you will need and apply for them in time.
