Announcing the Wall Street Journal

WSJ3.jpgThe first issue of the Wall Street Journal was four pages long and sold for two cents.  It has been printed continuously since July 8, 1889, when it was founded by Charles Dow, Edward Jones and Charles Bergstresser.  Today, the Wall Street Journal has grown to cover U.S. and world news, finance, arts, culture, lifestyle, sports and more.  It is the largest newspaper in the United States by circulation.

ProQuest brings you complete Wall Street Journal articles through this database. It is easy to search because of comprehensive indexing, which covers not only complete bibliographic information but also subjects, companies, people, products, and geographic areas. Detailed information on the arts, sports, business, popular culture, and even editorials, editorial cartoons, and letters to the editor from well-known people are indexed.

A basic search box is offered on the home page with a checkbox you can use to limit the results to full-text.  The advanced search page lets you set parameters such as publication date, subject heading, company, person, location, source type, and document type (such as letter to the editor or market research).  You can ask it to show the results by relevance, oldest first or more recent first, and you can set the number of result items per page.  The database searches three publications, the Wall Street Journal, Eastern Edition, the Wall Street Journal Online, and WSJ, the magazine from the Wall Street Journal.

An abstract of up to 75 words introduces each article cited in the database followed by a list of publication details.  You can toggle to the full-text version from the abstract page.  Using the tools offered on the right, you can save as PDF, cite, email, print or save.  There is a drop-down list of related items underneath, and an option to search with indexing terms used in the article.

The ProQuest Wall Street Journal database is an excellent tool for students, researchers, and anyone who needs more information on a business subject.  Take a moment now to learn something and explore this authoritative publication.
