The James Beard Awards are the most famous and prestigious of the many chef and cooking awards. 

The 2017 James Beard Awards celebrate nationwide excellence in cuisine, culinary writing, and culinary education.

California highlights in the restaurant and chef awards include:

Best Chef: West (CA, HI, NV): Corey Lee (pictured above) for the San Francisco restaurant Benu.

Best Restaurant Design (75 Seats and Under): SingleThread in Healdsburg.
