Kid's Pick: Sonia Sotomayor

Sonia Sotomayor by Kathleen Krull

Sonia Sotomayor’s biography written by Kathleen Krull for ages 6-9 is a fitting addition to the smart and engaging young reader series, Women Who Broke the Rules.  Sonia is a role model and inspiration for having the courage and tenacity to pursue her dreams in spite of the many obstacles before her, especially when it came to breaking the rules women were supposed to follow.  For example, she spoke up even when others thought she “argued like a man.”  This type of rule-breaking was how she rose to the top, making history by becoming the first Latino justice and the third ever woman on the Supreme Court.  “The heat is on” with this tenacious, brave, and feisty role model for all children on the Supreme Court, cleverly captured here by Krul!.
