Gale Virtual Reference Library

GVRL tabs
Start the new year with a tour of always-available reference ebooks! Browse the shelves of the Gale Virtual Reference Library for a word you only know the description of, research for that science project you're working on, comic book trivia, nutrition facts, and much more! The GVRL's collection covers a wide range of topics - including school subjects for students in grades K-12.

These ebooks do not require any jumping through hoops. There are two ways to connect through SCCLD to access them:

1. For access in your browser, find the links by subject in the research categories. Look for the resources with "eBooks" after a general subject in their title, and link to the GVRL directly. For example: Head to the Research categories and select the Arts category. The resource titled "Arts eBooks" is the direct link to Gale Virtual Reference Library's Arts section. You can also find the link to the Gale Virtual Reference Library landing page in the Academics category or in the Research A-Z List.

2. For mobile devices, download the free "Access My Library" app by Cengage. When you open the app, find Santa Clara County Library listed under Public libraries and select it as your library to access the GVRL ebooks. It can be downloaded from both the App Store and the Google Play Store.

Each ebook in the GVRL includes a book summary, full-color images, and a hyperlinked table of contents so you can jump to whichever chapter you want. Gale also makes it easy to browse their entire collection. If you started in Home & Garden but decide you actually want a Health & Fitness book, all the subject "shelves" can be found in the tabs at the top of the webpage and switched between with a single click. In the app, you can sort the list of ebooks alphabetically or by subject by clicking the three vertical dots in the top right corner.

Browse the Gale Virtual Reference Library's shelves and read your selection immediately, anytime you need it. There are no lending periods or waitlists. Explore eReference and expand your knowledge!
