RIP David Bowie

The world lost a music legend with the death of David Bowie on January 10, 2016, two days after his 69th birthday. From glam to soul to New Wave and beyond, his music was always of the times, if not ahead of them. Not satisfied with being merely an innovative musician, he was also an accomplished actor, starring in films such as The Man Who Fell to Earth, Basquiat, and the favorite of every '80s child such as myself, Labyrinth

Check out his music and films, as well as biographies, available at SCCLD. I know the next time I go to karaoke, I'll be singing "Life on Mars" in his memory. What's your favorite David Bowie song or film?

A true legend has been lost. David Bowie's music was so diverse; going back to his Ziggy Stardust days, his appearance on 'Soul Train' or singing Christmas carols with Bing Crosby; he did it all and let's not forget his acting role in Zoolander! Bowie will be truly missed

A Bowie quote for you:

"Don't you love the Oxford Dictionary? When I first read it, I thought it was a really really long poem about everything."

My favorite Bowie song was "Heroes" although I never checked if it was a song he wrote or not (but I just did and it seems he and Brian Eno wrote it). A few yrs ago I either heard him interviewed or read that he inspired many people to follow their inclinations as to gender issues and at his shows he conveyed to many in his audiences to celebrate themselves despite "hating" or "judging" by others. When I listen to "Heroes" I can see where that song seems to be an anthem to that issue but I suppose it had nothing to do with it at all but when I hear it, I sense that it captures that essence even if unintentional.
