Wi-Fi Policy

The Santa Clara County Library District offers wireless access (also called "hot spots" & "Wi-Fi" ) at all seven Community Libraries for patrons to use with their own personal notebooks, laptops, and other mobile devices. These access points are accessible during normal library hours. (Internet access is shut off 5 minutes prior to closing.) A valid email address is required.

A patron's use of this service is governed by the Santa Clara County Library District's Internet Policy.

All users are expected to use the Library's wireless access in a legal and responsible manner, consistent with the educational and informational purposes for which it is provided. Virtual Private Network (VPN) is not allowed on the Santa Clara County Library District's Wireless Network.

Printing access via the wireless connection is available only to Windows laptops. To print a document from a Windows laptop, please follow these directions. A library card or computer guest pass is required to print.

Due to the proliferation of WiFi networks, Library users may also be able to access other Wi-Fi networks within a Library not provided by Santa Clara County Library District. Use of these non-Santa Clara County Library District wireless networks within the Library's facilities is also governed by Santa Clara County Library District's Internet Policy.

As with most public wireless "hot spots," the Library's wireless connection is not secure. Information being transmitted could potentially be intercepted by another wireless user. Wireless users may choose not to transmit personal information (credit card numbers, passwords and any other sensitive information) while using any wireless "hot spot." Please take appropriate precautions when using this service.

All wireless access users are encouraged to have up-to-date virus protection on their laptop computers or wireless devices. The Library is not responsible for any information (e.g. credit card) that is compromised, or for any damage caused to your hardware or software such as electric surges, security issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking.

Library staff can provide general information for connecting your device to the wireless network, but cannot troubleshoot problems related to your wireless device or assist in making changes to your device's network settings and/or hardware configuration. The Library cannot guarantee that your device will work with the Library's wireless network.
