Terms & Conditions

As a participant, you must agree to follow these guidelines:
  1. Use the book we provide (don’t worry, it won’t be heavy!).

  2. Walk 5 meters (16.4 feet) with the book on your head on the designated course.

  3. Follow the instructions of the event organizers and the steward you are assigned to.

  4. Listen for the start signal before walking.

  5. Begin simultaneously with the other participants along the 5 meter course and complete it.

  6. Complete the full course and DO NOT use your hands to keep the book balanced on your head. Stewards will monitor this.

  7. Place books flat or “tent-style” on your head.  If you drop the book while walking, you can stop, replace the book on your head and continue walking.

  8. Consent and grant permission to Santa Clara County Library District to record statements, photographs, and/or audio or video footage of you for the purposes of complying with Guinness World Records guidelines of evidence required to break the world record, promotional materials/publications, or other purposes as determined by Santa Clara County Library District.

  9. Participants waive any rights of compensation or ownership to the recordings. You will be asked to sign a permission statement at check-in on the day of the event.

  10. I do hereby for myself, on behalf of my heirs, successors and assigns, in consideration of being permitted to participate in this event, agree to defend, indemnify, release and hold harmless the Santa Clara County Library District, its directors, officers, agents, and employees from any and all liability, loss, claims, and demands, actions or causes of actions for the death or injury to any persons and for any damages to property suffered or incurred by myself or any person which arises or may arise or be occasioned in any way from participation in this event, including, but not limited to, any negligence of the Santa Clara County Library District.
