Help Someone Learn to Read
Step 1: Register and Attend Orientation
To volunteer for the Reading Program, you must register for orientation. At this orientation, you will learn about the needs of adult literacy students, understand the qualities of excellent tutors, and ask any unanswered questions related to the tutoring process.

Step 2: Register and Attend Training
After orientation, all volunteers are required to complete tutor training before being matched with a learner. Tutor training includes:

understanding learning styles and honoring diversity

using tools and techniques to motivate adult learning

identifying appropriate literacy-based goals

developing learner-centered lesson plans

Step 3: Get Matched with a Learner
Tutors are matched with a learner based on their preferred library location at Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Milpitas, Morgan Hill or Saratoga as well as at the City of Mountain View Public Library.
