Unsung Heroes of WWII

Most people have heard of Oskar Schindler, but how many recognize the name Branislaw Huberman? There are countless stories of heroes who assisted in rescues during the Holocaust/WWII, and retelling their stories is probably the best way to honor their heroism.

Recently I saw a special screening of the movie Orchestra of Exiles, which was particularly inspiring due to my personal history (being both Jewish and a classical musician). This documentary tells the story of Branislaw Huberman, a Polish violinist who organized the relocation of nearly 1000 European-Jewish musicians to Palestine during World War II. These exiled people formed what was then called the Palestine Symphony, which grew into the now world-renowned Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
