So if you're the type who likes to read the book before seeing the movie, now is the time to pick up any you haven't yet read. I know the "For Later" shelf in My SCCLD just got bigger, how about yours? Here are some of the planned releases for 2013-2014, so mark those calendars and start reading!
Based on the first installment of the 'Mortal Instruments' book series by Cassandra Clare, the movie will star Lily Collins as the 15 year-old Clary Fray, who witnesses a murder by a killer nobody else can see. She eventually discovers that she's a "Shadowhunter," a half-angel warrior dedicatd to eliminating demons.
Part two of Suzanne Collins' trilogy, following The Hunger Games and picking up where we left Katniss and Peeta - the pair from District 12, who are now embarking on their victory tour. Will they survive this time, when they're thrown back into the arena to fight for their lives?
This adaptation of James Dashner's novel The Maze Runner is set to release on Valentine's Day of next year, with most of the cast yet to be named. The movie will follow young Thomas, who suffers from amnesia, as he and the other "Glades" prisoners try to escape a vast maze to gain their freedom.
Shailene Woodley is slated to star in this film based on Veronica Roth's popular dystopian novel, which takes place in a future world where people are divided into factions (each representing a specific virtue). As her 16th birthday approaches, protagonist Beatrice is faced with choosing which faction to join; but her choice ends up revealing some deep government secrets.
There is no release date yet for the film, based on Gayle Forman's haunting novel - but it is still worth reading, even if the film is never completed! If I Stay (and its sequel Where She Went) follows young Mia Hall, a cello prodigy who suffers unthinkable tragedy when her family is involved in a car accident. As she lingers in a coma, yet subconsciously aware, she must decide if this world is still worth facing.
