Don’t Just Go on a Hike, Go Orienteering!

Orientieering has been around since the 1890s in Sweden and grew from military training in land navigation into a competitive sport for military officers, then for civilians. After World War II it came over to the US and has been growing in popularity ever since.

Think of it as cross country running with a map and a compass. Or if you are not that competitive, as a nice hike with a kind of scavenger hunt, one the whole family can participate in.

If you want to give it a try, check out one of the many events the Bay Are Orienteering Club has scheduled at baoc.org
