Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Then a few weeks later Christmas, and Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, and New Year’s. All great excuses to eat – a lot! For those of us who need to watch what we eat, this can be a challenging time of the year. Here are a few tips to help us get through this time of great temptation:
Get active! Burn off a bunch of calories ahead of time. If you already exercise regularly – good. Keep it up and maybe lengthen your workout time a bit. If you have been putting this off, well, there is no better time to start exercising than right now.
Eat breakfast – Experts say eating a small meal in the morning can give you more control over your appetite when it comes time to sit down at that over-loaded dinner table. It’s not a good idea to arrive at the dinner table starving hungry.
Lighten up – Whether you’re cooking yourself or contributing to a potluck, vow to make your food healthier by using less fat and sugar.
Watch your portions – Scan the whole smorgasbord and decide up front what you want to eat. Then – be reasonable! If you keep your portions small you can enjoy whatever you want.
Skip the seconds.
