Never Forget

February 19th is Japanese American Internment    Remembrance Day, and this year marks the 70th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the creation of detention facilities and eventually cleared the way for the relocation of Japanese-American citizens to internment camps. To commemorate the anniversary, the geneology site Ancestry.com is releasing two if its databases for free to the public: an index of internees' biographical information and documents such as newspapers, employments reports and church records. Ancestry.com, in partnership with the Japanese American National Museum's Remembrance Project,  is also opening up its database containing passenger lists into Honolulu from 1900 to 1959. These databases will be available to the public for a week starting on Feb. 16.

Of course, members of the Santa Clara County Library District always have free access to Ancestry.com. The library also has a number of books and dvds documenting the Japanese-American internment experience
