Eiko Ishioka's posthumous Academy Award nomination for designing the costumes in Mirror, Mirror capped off the career of one of the boldest multi-media designers in the world.

Ishioka began working for the cosmetic giant Shiseido after being one of the few women to graduate with a degree in design in 1961.  Once she opened her own design firm in the 1970's, her avant garde designs attracted international attention.  She started working in films with director Paul Schrader's Mishima: A Life in Four Parts (1985).  She went on to work in several more films, designed parts of the Beijing 2008 Olympics , directed music videos and even designed the costumes for the Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark musical.

You can check out much of her award winning film work at the SCCLD libraries including her four collaborations with director Tarsem Singh, who directed Mirror, Mirror.

Mishima Mishima Ishioka's debut feature, won the 1985 Cannes Film Festival Award for Artistic Contribution for production design
Dracula Dracula , which won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design of 1992.
The Cell The Cell, her first collaboration with director Tarsem Singh
The Fall The Fall, directed by Tarsem Singh
Immortals Immortals, directed by Tarsem Singh
Mirror Mirror Mirror Mirror, directed by Tarsem Singh and currently nominated for the 2013 Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
