Volunteer Tutors Needed

Volunteers Needed

If you were naughty last year, here’s an exciting opportunity to be extra nice this year!

Share your skills and make a difference by becoming a volunteer tutor for the library's Reading Program.

The Reading Program offers free one-on-one tutoring to English-speaking adults by matching them with patient volunteers. As a tutor, you will spend two hours per week helping one student improve his or her reading, writing and comprehension skills. Students set goals related to their professional careers or personal goals.

Last fiscal year, a total of 180 tutor-learner pairs met in libraries, and volunteers provided over 7,822 instructional hours to help students build new skills. Students set over 890 goals to read books, learn about current events, improve their speaking vocabulary, write letters, apply for jobs, pass performance tests, access new community resources and obtain citizenship.

If you are interested in learning more about The Reading Program, attend an upcoming orientation.
