Master Gardeners: Arboretum All Stars at Cupertino Library

What does it take for a plant to make the UC Davis Arboretum All Stars cut? It’s a bit like winning a Nobel Prize, if there was one for plants. If they want to be all stars, plants need to be easy to grow and easy to care for state-wide and year round; they need to be hardy, disease and pest resistant and low-water and have outstanding qualities in the garden. Some of these plants also attract birds and beneficial insects if you’d like to make your yard a sanctuary for them. In addition, several are also California native species.

Master Gardener Marianne Mueller will be at Cupertino Community Hall on Wednesday, September 11 at 7 pm. She will talk about how to plant and care for these all stars in your own garden.  Her talk will include several different categories including perennials, shrubs, ground cover, vines and trees, and the effect they’ll produce in your garden.  Fall is a great time to add some arboretum all stars to your landscaping plans. Especially if you want a beautiful but easy-care garden that won’t guzzle up your water bill.
