2013 Silicon Valley Reads Author Event at Cupertino Community Hall

Saturday, April 13, 1:30 pm.

Cupertino Community Hall

War clearly takes the greatest toll from and poses the greatest dangers to the soldiers who do the fighting. For a soldier’s family however, there is a less immediate but very real price paid in terms of anxiety and loneliness during the long separations.

Iraq War Vet Brian Castner wrote about his  experience of the war as a soldier in his book The Long Walk. Sue Diaz, the mother of another Iraq War vet, wrote about the war experience on the part of the families who wait at home in her Minefields of the Heart: A Mother’s Stories of a Son at War.

Both of this year’s Silicon Valley Reads featured authors will be at the Cupertino Community Hall on Saturday, April 13 at 1:30 p.m. for the final 2013 Silicon Valley Reads event.

Brian and Sue will speak with De Anza College President Dr. Brian Murphy about their books and what their Silicon Valley Reads experiences have meant to them. In addition, the awards for the winners of the Silicon Valley Reads adult and teen essay contests, sponsored by the Cupertino Library Foundation, will also be distributed at this event.
