From February 24 to March 2, the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) is collaborating on a variety of
activities for adults and young people– free presentations (one for adults and one for teens), an essay contest for middle and high school students, and informative in-library displays. Details are featured in February's PlaneTalk, the newsletter for PlaneTree Health Information Center.
SCCLD is offering these events in conjunction with PlaneTree and the Eating Disorders Resource Center. A local nonprofit, the EDRC can help you locate Bay Area support groups and treatment professionals, or deal with insurance coverage difficulties.
Available for check-out from SCCLD or as reference works in the PlaneTree Center, the following books
are excellent guides for an individual who has, or a parent with a child who has, an eating disorder:
• Life beyond your Eating Disorder: Reclaim yourself, regain your health, recover for good by Johanna S. Kandel
• Crave: Why you binge eat and how to stop by Cynthia M. Bulik, Ph.D.
• A Parent's Guide to Defeating Eating Disorders : Spotting the stealth bomber and symbolic approaches by Ahmed Boachie and Karin Jasper
• Take Charge of Your Child’s Eating Disorder: A physician’s step by step guide to defeating anorexia and bulimia by Pam Carlton, M.D., who will present the talk for parents, teachers, and other concerned adults.
