Moving Days: Remembering World War II

In February 1942, President Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, relocating Japanese Americans from any military areas "as deemed necessary or desirable.” To the military, ”necessary and desirable” included the entire West Coast.

Perhaps to President Roosevelt, this sounded like a sensible precaution, with the nation so newly engaged in World War II combat. From a seventy year perspective, the mandatory relocation and internment of Japanese Americans from 1942 until 1945 was a deep injustice, perpetrated on account of wartime fears.

On Sunday, September 30 at 1:30 pm Cupertino Library is proud to host Moving Days: Local Japanese Americans Remember WWII, a History Collaborative panel discussion. The panel will include Aki Okuno, Tom Taniguchi and Its Uenaka, and be moderated by  Darcy Paul, A Cupertino Historical Society Board Member. The discussion will be held in Cupertino Community Hall.

Presented by Cupertino Library in cooperation with the Santa Clara Valley History Collaborative. California Reads programs are made possible with support from Cal Humanities in partnership with California Center for the Book.
