A muddy storytime!

This morning's toddler story time was all about MUD!  Lots of fun books feature getting dirty and getting clean.

Pete the Cat Pete the Cat

Sticky People Sticky People

We sang the baby Bumblebee song and enjoyed the flannel story "Mouse and the bees"

I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Won't my mommy be so proud of me,
I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Don’t let it sting you!

One Duck Stuck One Duck Stuck

Worms love mud, so we danced to Hap Palmer's "Walter the waltzing worm" and shared this fingerplay:

                            Five little wiggle worms

Wiggling up a tree.

Teasing Mr. Blue Bird

As fast as can be.

Ooops!

There goes the  worm!

Now where can she be?

Under the ground as safe as can be

Early Literacy Tip for Today:

To support early literacy sing, talk, read, write and play with your child

1.       Phonological awareness

2.       Vocabulary

3.     Background Knowledge

4.       Print Conventions/Awareness

5.       Letter Knowledge

This week’s tip:

Background knowledge is building on and creating a base for what children already know to help them be ready to learn

When children say a phrase that is repeated throughout the book, they are involved in the story: like the phrase in One Duck Stuck or the song in Pete the Cat.  It also helps learn structure of a story and most importantly you are helping them associate reading with fun and you! The enjoyment of books starts now with story time.  Make book sharing time interactive and enjoyable.
