We had an awesome time dicussing The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, eating grasshopper cookies -- mint, not real grasshoppers! -- and talking to Lynn from the Youth Science Institute about entomology.

Calpurnia is very interested in natural science and Darwin so we talked about Calpurnia's evolution as a character. Then Lynn gave a talk and let us gently pet a walking stick and a Madagascar hissing cockroach -- an insect that Darwin himself studied!
The kids took home some fascinating books all about Darwin, insect scientists, and women in science. You can borrow them too!
