Books That Shaped America Exhibit at The Library of Congress
The Library of Congress currently has an exhibit entitled “Books That Shaped America”, which will be on display until September 29th. It is part of the 2012 “Celebration of the Book” and a prelude to the Library of Congress’ 2012 National Book Festival, taking place on the National Mall September 22nd and 23rd.
I checked it out on the LOC website after hearing it featured in an NPR “Talk of the Nation” segment on August 14th, where Lynn Neary interviewed Mark Dimunation, Chief of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division at the Library of Congress about the process of selecting the books for the exhibit. You can read the full transcript or listen to the story here.
Whether you agree with the list of books selected on or not, if you happen to be visiting Washington D.C. between now and September, it might be a wonderful opportunity to view some very rare editions of important American works of literature from the Library’s Rare Book and Special Collections Division.
