The Santa Clara County Library District Bookmobiles will be on the road this summer driving our regular routes and participating in numerous outreach activities and special events in all our communities.
Twice a month, the Bookmobiles serve senior living facilities, schools, and neighborhood stops with a variety of library materials, including books, movies, talking books and music CDs for adults, teens and children. Our newest stops at Monte Sereno City Hall and Gardner Bullis School in Los Altos Hills will continue through the summer. See our current spring schedule; our summer schedule will be posted on or before May 20th.
In addition, the Bookmobile will be participating in the Saratoga Library 10th Anniversary Celebration (May 18th), Los Altos Hills Picnic (June 2nd) , 4th of July Parade in Morgan Hill, the Silicon Valley Fall Festival (on Sept. 21st), and many more events over the next few months.
Come check out our new Bookmobile this summer – staff would love to welcome you aboard!

Our new Bookmobile was delivered on October 15th by Meridian Specialty Vehicles. This smaller vehicle will replace our 20-year-old Thomas Bookmobile in delivering service to areas with steep, windy roads -- like Mt. Hamilton and the Santa Cruz Mountains -- and is the perfect size to take to promotional and outreach events.
It has a variety of new features which will help us provide better service and be more cost efficient. It has three solar panels on the roof which generate enough power to run the lights and computers, eliminating the need to use the generator at each stop. It also has a fan on the roof and skylights which will also help with light and cooling. Two entrances are available: one with a set of stairs and one with a wheelchair/walker lift to assist our physically disabled users.
Our new Bookmobile will be available for public viewing at each County Library during the months of November and December. A schedule will be available soon. Please stop and see our new "baby."
Our brand new baby Bookmobile is here! It has been a long time coming and we are very excited to introduce you to the newest member of the Bookmobile family!

The outside of the Bookmobile features our new SCCLD logo and the vibrant new colors from our logo.

Here is the inside of our new vehicle. It has desks on each end, and many new shelves waiting for materials!

Here is a veiw of the roof. On the left are the solar panels, which means less gas is needed to fuel this baby! There are also four skylights, and air conditioner and a fan.

Our new vehicle also features an electric wheelchair lift.
We can't wait to take it on the road, but first we need to fill it up.

September 13th is Roald Dahl’s birthday, the author who wrote
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory ,
James and the Giant Peach ,
The Witches ,
Matilda and more. September 13th is also the day that Santa Clara County’s Bookmobile will come to the Downtown Farmer’s Market from 4-8 pm. Children and their parents can have a tour to see the inside of a “moving library” and find lots of Roald Dahl books to check out and enjoy! Children who wear yellow, Roald Dahl’s favorite color, will receive a Crocodile craft kit!
The Bookmobile particpated at Foodie fun on the Run in Saratoga Saturday August 25th from 4-8pm. The event is held once a month in the parking lot of the Alameda Funeral Home located off of Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd. Each event benefits a nonprofit/charity. This event benefitted Youth Science Institute. The participating trucks were Chutney Mary's, Sam’s Chowder Mobile, Sanguchon Peruvian, Waffle Amore, Scoops and Takoz Mod Mex. Yum!
The Bookmobile got quite a bit of traffic too! We had a prize wheel from Saratoga Library and lots of prizes were handed out. Leni, Karen and Gayathri all helped man the booth and hand out prizes. We had lots of fun! Below is a picture of our truck and Karen holding an adorable pug dog and Gayathri laughing at the silly dog.

On Saturday August 18th the Bookmobile participated in the Armed Forces Community Covenant at Moffett Air Force Base. We had a prime location right in the middle of the parade field. There was music performed by a military band and bagpipes by the Scottish American Military Association. It was great fun and there were lots of people out taking advantage of all the military services and information available.

The Bookmobile participated in the Food Truck Mafia event last wednesday night in Milpitas. The event is held on Calaveras blvd in the Big Lots parking lot. The event is ongoing although there are not any future plans to bring the Bookmobile back. But maybe we can work on that! Lauren (children's librarian from Milpitas Library) and I had a good time talking to people, giving away goodies, dancing to the DJ and of course eating food from the trucks. Yum! Thank you Carol (from the Milpitas Chamber of Commerce) and April (of the Food Truck Mafia) for allowing us to participate!

The Bookmobile now stops at Gardner Bullis Elementary School in Los Altos Hills from 1-2pm. The next time we will be there is this friday, 8/24. Come check us out!
