It’s flu season – and what you can do about it.

There is nothing funny about having the flu. It is a serious contagious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death. At a minimum, flu patients will feel pretty miserable for a few days.

Here is what you can do to fight the flu.

  1. Get a flu shot. It’s not too late! This should be the number one defense against this disease for everyone 6 months of age and older.

  2. Prevent the spread of the virus. Here’s how: wash your hands frequently, avoid being around those who have it, cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze.

  3. If you do get the flu, your doctor can prescribe antiviral drugs. These work best if started within two days of getting sick. They can make your illness milder and shorten the time that you are sick.

Symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, chills and fatigue. And you feel really awful!
