Axis 360 eBooks

Axis 360 offers interactive eBooks enhanced by color, video, and audio using the Blio reading app.

To get started, begin browsing the Axis 360 website, also called Magic Wall, which looks and acts just like any other online bookshelf. Once you've checked out an eBook from the Magic Wall, just sync it up to Blio for over-the-air delivery. You can sync Blio with up to five mobile devices for reading on the go.

The Blio app is 100% Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant and offers text-to-speech (TTS) for the print-impaired.

Please note: Apps for other environments are forthcoming. Smart Phone users must use the web-based version of the Magic Wall as part of the initial downloading process.

Confirm Requirements

To download Blio eBooks from Axis 360, you will need:

  • A Windows PC

    OR
     
  • An iPad / iPod touch / iPhone

    OR
     
  • An Android phone or tablet

    AND
     
  • An Internet connection
  • The Blio reading app
  • A Santa Clara County Library District card and PIN
  • A Blio ID (you will need to create a free account the first time you try downloading a title)
  • The Amazon Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD are also compatible with the Blio reading app.

    • Please note you will need to first change your "Device" settings to "Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources." You can set this option back to "off" when finished.

How It Works

  1. Visit the Magic Wall at Axis 360.
  2. Log in with your library card number and PIN. First time user will need to choose a user name and password and will also be prompted to enter an email address.
  3. If you do not already have the Blio reading app, click on "Get the Reader." Blio is compatible with Windows, iOS, and Android. First time Blio users will need to create a Blio account using an email address and a password.
  4. Back at the Axis 360 web site (Smart Phone users must access the web-based version of the Magic Wall), you can see featured items on the Magic Wall, browse by subject area, or search for specific titles. When you check out an eBook, it will download to your computer or device and be available for viewing in your Blio Reader. Please note: The option "Checkout Now" loans the title for 21 days, while "Add to Checkout List" allows you to shrink your checkout period to as few as seven days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I return a Blio title early?
A: Titles cannot be returned early as they are set to expire automatically. You may check out up to ten titles at a time.

Q: How long is my checkout period?
A: The default checkout period is 21 days. If you choose the "Add to Checkout List" option instead of the "Checkout Now" option the service will allow you to shrink your checkout period to as few as seven days.

Q: Can I renew a Blio title?
A: Titles cannot be renewed, but they can be checked out again after they expire, provided they are still available.

Q: How do I get different voices?
A: Blio uses the text-to-speech (TTS) native to the device it is on. TTS is a feature that is publisher-enabled. If there is no TTS software, a voice needs to be purchased. Depending on the device, there may be different voice packs available. If you would like to know more about TTS programs for your device, please consult a local or online retailer.
