Countdown to the 2013 Hugos: The Graphic Novels

The 2013 Hugo Awards for best science fiction and fantasy works are coming this fall, and the nominees have been announced! For the first three years of its existence this award was won by Girl Genius, the hit webcomic by Phil and Kaja Folio (now available in print at your local SCCLD!). Last year the award went to the wombat-centric webcomic Digger. Who will take home the prize this year? Let's take a look at the contenders.

Grandville Bete Noire

Grandville Bete Noire by Bryan Talbot

A fantasy crime/noir tale with anthropomorphized animal characters and a generous helping of steampunk. This title is coming soon to a Santa Clara County Library near you.

Locke & Key

Locke and Key, Volume 5: Clockworks by Joe Hill

The ambitious paranormal crime series continues in this fifth volume by Hill, son of writer Stephen King. Be warned: this series is highly addictive!
