Code Name Verity -Elizabeth Wein
I have been seeing buzz about this book for months and every single review I read said the same thing: “We can’t say anything about this book because we don’t want to give anything away.” This tight-lipped praise really caught my attention so I put my name on the holds list and waited impatiently for my copy to come in.
After reading it, I have to agree -I really don’t know how to write a review without giving something away. The basic premise is safe enough. Set in the midst of WWII, two young women travel to Nazi-occupied France to undertake a mission for the British Special Ops. The novel opens with a confession from one of the women, who has been captured by the Gestapo and is being tortured and forced to reveal everything she knows.
