Record Store Days
I've been reading Michael Chabon's new book "Telegraph Avenue" and it has reminded me of my love for the record store, I even met my husband in one. I've spent hours of my life flipping through bins of records looking for treasures, mostly just getting my hands dirty, but my love of 80's soundtracks on vinyl knows no bounds. I still remember the first time my mom let me choose my own record, I wanted that Donald Duck classic "Goin' Quackers" so much. Unfortunately, my brother's first record purchase, "Heart of Glass" by Blondie on 45 rpm is much cooler than mine; but, ever since then, I've been looking to record stores for my fix of old music, new music, and the music I never knew I needed.
Spend some time in these record stores.

Andie (Molly Ringwald) works in Trax record store, where she meets Blaine, the sensitive rich boy, who is, in my opinion, not nearly as cool as "just a friend" Duckie (Jon Cryer). Duckie's rendition of, "Try a Little Tenderness", is not to be missed. |

great post! pretty in pink is one of my favorite movies - you just have to know when to turn it off. i like to pretend that the end of the movie is when duckie and andie walk into the prom together, and take each other's hand. if you end it right there, it's pretty much perfect. oh yeah, and the first album i picked for myself was the first whitney houston, on cassette. i think that's somewhere in between donald duck and blondie on the coolness scale.
