Klaussman has written a pleasantly melodramatic novel set in 1950's Martha's Vineyard. Nick and Helena are cousins who have grown up together, and at the beginning of the book they are about to set out on their adult lives. World War II is over, both are married and moving away, to Florida and California. The novel moves back and forth in time, which is occasionally confusing. Also, one character is so creepy it seems quite obvious that he's up to no good.
