The Woodland Branch Library is thrilled to host Sue Diaz, author of the book Minefields of the Heart, for an in-person talk on Thursday, March 14th at 6pm. This public event is part of Silicon Valley Reads 2013, presented by Santa Clara County Library District, Santa Clara County Office of Education, and San Jose Public Library Foundation. All events are free to attend, and no registration is required; space is limited at the branch, however, so we do suggest coming a bit early to secure a seat.
The theme for this year's SVR is "Invisible Wounds of War," and Diaz's Minefields of the Heart discusses the experience of having her son deployed in Iraq. When one individual goes to fight, their entire family back home also faces many challenges. Not only did they have to wait and worry while he was gone, but also had to support him through post-traumatic stress syndrome and other lasting effects of the war. Sue Diaz will explore these issues, and we hope to have many people in attendance to hear her speak.
