Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail

Posted on Friday, August 16, 2013 by Travel_and_Outdoors

You have probably heard about the Appalachian Trail. Bill Bryson introduced it to many of us with his book ‘A Walk in the Woods’.

But recently another trail has been making the news and it is much closer to home: the Pacific Crest Trail.

It is 2,663 mi long and it takes on average 152 days to hike the full length. The trail runs from the U.S. border with Mexico to the U.S. border with Canada and crosses through 25 national forests and 7 national parks.

Detailed information about hiking the trail can be found on the Pacific Crest Trail Association’s website: http://www.pcta.org/

If this all sounds interesting, but you don’t have time to hike the trail yourself, try one of these recent memoirs:

I Promise not to Suffer

Storey, Gail Donohue

Wild

Strayed, Cheryl

Another fun and funny book on hiking the Pacific Crest Trail is The Cactus Eaters: how I lost my mind - and almost found myself - on the Pacific Crest Trail by Dan White.
