The gaming world can rejoice next week when Guild Wars 2 finally goes 'live'. Expected to make a dramatic entry in to the MMORPG category, Guild Wars 2 continues with its subscription-free model and offers itself as a serious contender to World of Warcraft.
Guild Wars 2 is promising to deliver a customized personal story arc alongside a fully interactive social game, with dynamic world events and a reimagined player-vs-player experience. It's not just the gameplay that has seen attention though, this week the first song from Guild Wars 2 was released on iTunes.
Set in its own unique world the game has many of the components that engage the imagination of the fantasy lover. The fleet-footed thief and the brawny warrior battle alongside their more ethereal counterparts in the mesmer and the elementalist. For those that want to get in 'the mood' for a little high-fantasy gaming here's a selection of classic fantasy novels:
In a world where some people are born with extreme and often-feared skills called Graces, Katsa struggles for redemption from her own horrifying Grace, the Grace of killing, and teams up with another young fighter to save their land from a corrupt king.
After you've finished Graceling try these others set in the same world: Fire and Bitterblue.
In a world where magic lives just over the border Sabriel is destined to follow in her father's footsteps. When her father goes missing Sabriel is taken from the safety of her boarding school back to the Old Kingdom.
Armed with her fathers sword, his necromancy bells and a strange and magical cat, Sabriel is determined to find her father - in this world, or the next.
Fitz is the bastard son of Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father's gruff stableman. He is treated like an outcast by all the royalty. For in Fitz's blood runs the magic Skill--and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family. As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.
