There’s nothing like a road trip to bring a family together, right? NOT! At least that’s what 14 year old Ben first thinks when Dad wakes him at dawn to pick up a rescued dog to foster in the hilarious book, Road Trip.
Father and son writing team, Gary and Jim Paulsen, deftly illustrate how the minds of young adolescent boys work as they takes us through the inner workings of Ben’s thoughts. They also demonstrate expertise at reading dog minds with the amusing observations that Ben’s border collie Atticus makes of his people.
If you have some road trips planned for the holidays, you might want to listen to the audiobook version of this story. It could prove to be the perfect antidote to the 'Are we there yet?' syndrome. In the course of this big adventure, Ben learns the importance of the families we are born into as well as those that we make. He discovers that Dad's mantra "with love, everything will turn out alright" is a good guide to live by - an important lesson for this holiday season.
