End of Summer Beach Reads

Posted on Saturday, August 17, 2013 by Robyn_Bookworm

Summer is starting to wind down, but there are still a few more sunny days left to get outside and enjoy the beach. Here are a few promising titles that will make perfect beach-day companions.

A Hundred Summers

A Hundred Summers -Beatriz Williams

Set largely on the beaches of 1930’s Rhode Island, this book has all the classic qualities of a beach read. Romance, gossip, rich socialites, marital disaster, and societal chaos -it is sure to be a page turner perfect for a hot summer’s day.

NOS4A2

NOS4A2 -Joe Hill

As the son of horror mastermind Stephen King, Joe Hill certainly has big shoes to fill. But with this genre-defying suspense novel he proves that he has certainly learned a thing or two from dear old dad. The tale follows Charlie Manx, a child abductor who takes children to the supernatural amusement park, Christmasland. This is a cringeworthy novel that you will want to read in the daylight.

The Heist

The Heist -Janet Evanovich

The first book in a new Janet Evanovich series is sure to please fans of her popular Stephanie Plum series. The new series follows FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare as she teams up with celebrity con man Nicolas Fox. After Kate has spent most of her career trying to track Nicolas down, can she really work with him? The odd partnership makes this an exciting and hilarious read.

Necessary Errors

Necessary Errors -Caleb Crain

1990’s Prague is a time of hope and romance; and the transition from communism to capitalism lures young Americans searching for artistic inspiration and freedom. Jacob Putnam moves to Prague for college and there he meets a circle of expats who spend their days philosophizing, drinking, and daring to dream. Necessary Errors follows Jacob’s education in life, love, and literature, and makes for a perfect lounge-around book.

The Shining Girls

The Shining Girls -Lauren Beukes

Part time-travel sci-fi, part murder-mystery, this novel is a compelling read that will keep you guessing. It follows Harper Curtis, a murderer who travels through time killing history’s most promising young women before they have they can fulfill their potential. When one young woman escapes she vows to turn the tables and bring Curtis to justice.
