Posted on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 by Reading_Program

In September, the staff of The Reading Program matched 24 new tutor-learner pairs! We are excited to support our students, and we appreciate the dedication of their very special volunteers. Currently, there are over 100 tutor-learner pairs actively meeting in the Santa Clara County Library District, and these fabulous students are improving their reading and writing skills every day.

What kinds of subjects have Reading Program students been studying with their tutors in the past week?

  • Updating resume to include power words like “facilitated” and “developed”
  • Learning vocabulary for workplace performance test
  • Reading about dietary recommendations for conditions like arthritis and high cholesterol
  • Learning to read aloud complicated numbers like $1,456,230.17
  • Preparing to pass the GED test
  • Learning to write checks for the family business
  • Reading about educational milestones to prepare children for preschool
  • Teaching a fellow Reading Program student more about proper sentence structure and irregular verbs
