The Sundance Film Institute's celebration of independent films will take place Jan. 17-27, 2013 and everyone's talking about how many women directors are competing this year. Half of the 16 entries in the domestic dramatic films competition are directed by women - an unprecedented number from an industry that often lacks female representation. Some attribute this to the success of Sundance's 2010 entry, "Winter's Bone" directed by Debra Granik and starring Jennifer Lawrence, who later appeared in "The Hunger Games". She was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "Winter's Bone."
You can check out this movie from the library, as well as many others by women directors.
