Teens at the Cupertino Library decorated small cakes just in time for the holidays. Chef Berna has demonstrated cooking lessons for many age groups, and we were fortunate to have her show seventeen lucky teens how to bake and make a glaze. A glaze is a sugary coating or icing that goes over the cake. Once the teens chose their cake shapes, then they were ready for the fun part. Ready, set… decorate!
No two cakes were alike! There were many bright colors of decorations and chocolates to choose from. There were gumdrops, candy cane pieces, chocolate morsels, and sprinkles of every color.
Lots of teens chose to do a holiday theme: gingerbread house, Christmas tree, Santa surrounded by mounds of sprinkles, etc. While other teens made spirals, rainbows, and other shapes. Here is a collage of what the teens made at our program:
Teens not only enjoyed decorating their cake creations and taking them home, but some ate their cakes right away! Chef Berna also shared with us her recipe for baking the perfect cake.
