1000 Books before Kindergarten!

You Read to Me, I'll Read to YouI was reading an article from School Library Journal that talks about libraries nationwide offering a very exciting program. The main purpose is to encourage parents and caregivers to read-aloud 1,000 books with their children.

ONE THOUSAND books seems to be a lot, but it really is not! If families read one book a day, children will have heard 1,826 stories before entering kindergarten. Not only are you talking about school readiness, but you are also talking about a lifelong love for books. In addition that, children are also being exposed to an extensive vocabulary. The benefits are endless.

There is still time to start a NEW resolution today, go to the library and check out a few books.  For a booklist recommendation, go to KIDS page, scroll down to OUR PICKS, click on ALL, then arrow through the booklists.  Here is one that you can start with: Classic Picture Books.
