Ariel Sharon, former Prime Minister of Israel, died earlier today (January 11th, 2014) at the age of 85 near Tel Aviv. Sharon served as a political and military leader in Israel for half a century, including appointments as the Minister of Defense, Industry, Housing and Construction, Energy and Water Resources, and Foreign Affairs. He then served as Prime Minister from March 2001 through April 2006, until suffering a stroke which left him in a coma for the next eight years. Known as "The Bulldozer," he was viewed as having both victories and controversies, but his contributions to Middle East relations were great in number and impact.
